OpenStreetMap is an open source project to create a free editable map of the world. Users are encouraged to map their neighborhoods, cities, and areas that interest them because OpenStreetMap emphasizes local, community driven data collection and use. Data that is mapped is open data that is provided free to whoever wants to use this data to create maps or do analysis. The creation and utilization of the OpenStreetMap data is at the forefront of the Open Data movement. How can you and your organization both contribute and utilize this information? This workshop is highly interactive and participants are encouraged to bring a computer to participate in hands on mapping exercises.
This workshop will cover the following subjects:
• Introduction to Open Street Map covering the history and current state of the project
